East Boston High School to retire the numbers of Wiggins and retired coach Sousa at Game on Friday, November 4.

East Boston -- East Boston High School (EBHS) will retire the numbers of former NFL player Jermaine Wiggins (18) and retired football coach John Sousa (66) on Friday, November 4 at Sartori Stadium when the EBHS Jets host The English High School.  The game begins at 6 p.m.

According to Headmaster Mike Rubin, the ceremony will take place at halftime. The stadium is located in East Boston, in back of the Airport MBTA stop and is commonly known as the East Boston Stadium. Both Wiggins and Sousa graduated from EBHS.

Wiggins was a two-time Boston City League All-Star (1992-93), before embarking on a collegiate career at Marshall and Georgia. He spent eight years in the NFL as a member of the Jets, Patriots, Colts, Panthers, Vikings and Jaguars, earning a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots for the 2001 season.

Sousa starred at East Boston in the mid-1960s, captaining the 1968 squad. He spent 17 years as an assistant at Boston English before accepting the coaching job at his alma mater in 1995. As the coach with the most wins in school history, Sousa spent 15 years on the Jets’ sidelines, winning 119 games and a Super Bowl title in 2004.

A coffee and pastry reception is planned for after the game at East Boston High School. All are welcome to attend the game and the numbers retirement. For information about game tickets and the reception, please call Phil Brangiforte at 617-635-9896, ext. 30305.
