Boston Center for
Youth and Families Boston Neighborhood Basketball League now running
through August 24. Eastie hoop games at OH Community Center!
Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Boston’s Chief of Human Services/Boston
Centers for Youth & Families’ (BCYF) Executive Director Daphne
Griffin are pleased to announce that the Boston Neighborhood
Basketball League’s (BNBL) 43rd annual summer season is underway
providing great basketball on summer evenings at 21 locations across
the city.
“Thousands of young people learn the value of teamwork and
sportsmanship through this league,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. “We
have dozens of great games going on every night all summer long and
I encourage people to stop in and support their neighborhood team.
A complete list of BNBL locations is below or can be found by
visiting BCYF’s website, www.cityofboston.gov/bcyf. Most sites host
games at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday evenings you can
watch BNBL games live on television on the Boston Neighborhood
Network (BNN) (Comcast 9 | RCN 15.) The season runs through Friday,
August 24th.
Last year, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Daphne Griffin joined
officials from Reebok International to announce that Reebok had
signed on as the lead sponsor of BNBL. Reebok’s sponsorship of BNBL
includes all costs associated with players, coaches and staff
uniforms, clinics, “Championship Week” playoffs and championship
games and the BNBL Banquet honoring the six championship teams.
There are also additional events and opportunities that Reebok will
fund which this year included a logo contest to select a design for
this season’s t-shirts. The winner of the logo contest was a 13 year
old Boston youth girl who was awarded the opportunity to create a
custom pair of Reeboks as well as several other prizes.
“BNBL is one of the signature summer programs offered at BCYF
providing hundreds of young people with a healthy and fun activity
throughout the summer,” said Daphne Griffin. “I want to thank Reebok
International for supporting BNBL for nearly two decades and helping
us to provide this opportunity to Boston youth.”
