Kiwanis
Club of East Boston and Boston Police District 7 to host Annual
Bicycle Safety Rodeo
(East Boston, MA. 19-April-2012) On Saturday, May 19, 2012 the
Kiwanis Club of East Boston, in Partnership with Boston Police
District Seven, will hold their Annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo. The
target is children Kindergarten to 5th grade.
The event will include giving away free bicycle
helmets, a free raffle for brand new bicycles, a bicycle safety
clinic featuring bike safety inspections and optional quick
tune-ups, safety lectures about the rules of the road, a
presentation by the Boston Police K9 Unit, pizza, drinks and much
more.
The event starts at 10AM in the playground of the
Salesians Boys & Girls Club. 150 Byron Street, East Boston (former
Savio High School).
The Rodeo is a proven way to teach safety skills to
children in a fun way. Each year, over 400 children are killed in
bicycle accidents, and thousands more are treated for
bicycle-related injuries. While bicycle helmets have been shown to
reduce the risk of head injuries by 85%, only 5% of all child
cyclists use them! Many children and their parents are not aware of
these statistics and the basic techniques for staying safe while
riding a bicycle.
