First Ever Eastie Week to kick off in
East Boston June 6-15
EAST
BOSTON, MA (May 23, 2014) – On Friday, June 6th, East Boston Main
Streets and The Boston Harbor Association, in association with other
local partners will kick off Eastie Week – ten days of events and
community programming that will run from Friday, June 6th through
Fathers’ Day, Sunday, June 15th.
"Eastie Week is a fun and interesting way to invite visitors and
residents to experience all that East Boston has to offer," said
Mayor Walsh. "I look forward to residents and visitors alike
enjoying the neighborhood's diverse culture, arts, and food."
East Boston Main Streets is proudly partnering with The Boston
Harbor Association and other local partners to create this exciting
new event, highlighting East Boston and promoting the East Boston
waterfront and neighborhood to the wider public. As an integral part
of TBHA’s Summer on the Waterfront initiative, now in its third
year, Eastie Week promises to become an annual anchor event for East
Boston.
"Eastie Week is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the great things
East Boston has to offer,” said State Representative and East Boston
resident Carlo Basile. “We are excited to celebrate and recognize
such a vibrant and evolving community. Eastie Week will bring people
together from all walks of life and show Greater Boston and beyond
that East Boston truly is the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Programming and events will highlight both the cultural and artistic
wealth East Boston has to offer while also bringing focus to East
Boston’s local resources whether it be the waterfront, the parks or
public facilities such as the brand new public library, or the local
merchants and restaurants that make up the bustling business
district. Additionally, local musical talent such as the renowned
band Cloud Factory and the various professional and youth
performances at Zumix will be highlighted.
“East Boston has so much to offer – a diverse mix of food, shops and
entertainment, a beautiful waterfront and more," said lifelong East
Boston resident and City Councilor Sal LaMattina. "I am excited to
showcase my neighborhood during our first Eastie Week and invite my
neighbors from all over the City to join us for a great week of
family fun, cultural events, and parties.”
