East Boston
students learn about health care careers at MGH Institute
CHARLESTOWN (May 2012)- More than a dozen freshmen students from
East Boston had a chance to see what it takes to become a nurse,
physical therapist, and speech-language pathologist during a May 22
tour of MGH Institute of Health Professions in the Charlestown Navy
Yard.
The students, some of whom attend East Boston High School as well as
other Boston high schools, saw how simulation manikins are used to
help the graduate school’s students practice their skills before
they work with live patients.
The visit was coordinated by the Massachusetts General Hospital’s
Center for Community Health Improvement. For the past two decades,
the hospital has helped inspire hundreds of Boston youth interested
in health and science careers with activities and employment
opportunities.
The East Boston students were: William Angel, Theresa Buenrostro,
Claudia Cabrera, Katrina Cruz, Erik Faiella, Dajuan Frasier, Juliana
Grillo, Shonice Kilgoe, Arjanae Lewis, Brandy Mendoza, Nhi Nguyen,
Lauren Reyes, Aline Santos, Kaouther Teurkia, and Bernard Xhullima.

Communication Sciences and Disorders Clinical Instructor Charles
Jeans, MS, CCC-SLP; School of Nursing Clinical Assistant Professor
