Malden/East Boston Youth Hockey Update (10/28/2015)
Malden/East Boston Youth Hockey
Update
MEB hockey continues to roll on this fall, with some teams finding their way and
others looking for the winning combination - not unlike the Bruins these days...
Midgets found themsleves with a short bench on Friday night facing a full
Everett/Revere team at the Veteran's Memorial Rink in Everett. With only a
handful of players, the team certainly got a workout and emerged victorious at
the final buzzer. Their wininig strategy was simple - stay out of the penalty
box - good idea, boys!
Our Pee Wees have continued to play strong hockey, with only a few losses in
this young season, and this weekend produced another notch in the 'W' column.
Playing in Lynn on Sunday evening (after the end of the Pats game thankfully),
they routed the Lynnfield-Saugus Pee Wees, finishing the game with a score of
6-1.
The MEB Squirts have continued their roll as the undefeated squad in our ranks,
in an early Sunday morning game where they defeated Lexington/Bedford in
Everett. They are now 9-0 with the win, putting them in first place in the
Valley Hockey League Squirt Central National AA division. This weekend they face
Hyde Park Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in Charlestown, in what will be the first
time this season these two teams have met.
While our Mites are still looking for their first win of the season, they are
continuing to leave it all on the ice. This wekend they fell to Waltham for the
second time this season. In a division where the first place team has just 4
wins, they are facing tough challenges, but keep playing with their hearts on
their sleeves. Go MEB Mites!
In other news, what has become a tradition over the past few years in Malden
each fall, the Home 4 the Holidays Street Hockey Tournament will be played on
Saturday, November 28 at the Linden School hockey and basketball courts in
Malden. Again this year, MEB will be the beneficiary of funds raised through the
tournament, which draws teams of at least 10 "adults" to compete for the honor
of this year's champion. In its fourth year, this great event for those eager to
show off their skills (or just talk trash as much as possible) promises to be a
great one.
Lots of other fun to be had with Boston Bruins alumni appearing, concession
stand, DJ, a visit from the big guy in the red suit, and raffles for all kinds
of great stuff!
