Ward 1 Democratic Endorses Four Candidates
including Sen. Boncore
An endorsement meeting of the Ward 1 Democratic Committee was held on Thursday,
June 30, 2016 at the Salesian Boys & Girls Club.
The purpose of this meeting was to consider an endorsements for state and county
offices on the ballot in the upcoming election.
The meeting was attended
by thirteen (13) members of the Ward committee. The candidates who addressed the
committee in person included candidates for Registry of Probate:
Jeff Ross,
Mike Mackon, and
Paul Nutting.
The following candidates sent representatives to speak on their behalf:
Steve Murphy,
Stephanie Everett and
Katherine Forde.
Sheriff Steve Tompkins & Alexander Rhalimi both attended as candidates for
Suffolk County Sheriff.
Stephen Borelli candidate for Governor's Council also attended.
The candidates or their representatives each delivered five-minute speeches
about their backgrounds, qualifications and their platforms.
The candidates presented great information and those in attendance asked some
great questions, which spurred a lively and informative discussion.
Following the presentations by the candidates the Ward committee took an
endorsement vote, with 12 members in attendance at the time of the vote a
minimum of 8 votes was required for a candidate endorsement.
In the race for Suffolk County Registry of Deeds none of the candidates garnered
enough votes to receive an endorsement.
The committee did vote to endorse the following candidates:
Sheriff Steve Tompkins for Suffolk County Sheriff,
Stephen Borelli for Governor's Council,
Representative Adrian Madaro for State Representative and
Senator Joseph Boncore for State Senator.
Voters head to
the polls on September 8, 2016 for the primary election.
The Ward
Committee also voted to extend the deadline for registered Ward 1 Democrats to
apply for a vacant seat on the committee.
In order to fill a vacant seat on the Committee, the committee members would
like to request resumes and a statement of interest.
The statement of interest should be at least a paragraph in length, but no more
the one (1) page. The statement of interest should explain why the applicant
would like to serve on the Ward Committee.
Resumes and statements of interest can be emailed to
bosward1dems@gmail.com. The deadline to submit these documents is September
1, 2016.
The Committee will then decide which candidates to invite to meet with the
Committee. Following the in person meeting the committee will vote to elect a
new member to fill the vacancy.
