Statement of Mayor Martin J. Walsh Regarding Today's Response from the Gaming Commission

(BOSTON- January 10, 2014) The following is a statement released by the Mayor's office, City of Boston:

"I am disappointed in the Gaming Commission’s failure to grant Boston the extension requested. The Commission has refused to grant Boston a mere 30 additional days to review 43,000 pages of documents, the vast majority of which we are seeing for the first time. Given the volume of the pages to be reviewed, and the extremely short time frame we have had available to review them, it is clear that the extension was not an unreasonable request.

"It’s our responsibility to protect the best interests of those most impacted – the people of Charlestown, East Boston, and the City of Boston as a whole. Throughout this weekend, we will be evaluating all options available to us to protect Boston’s interests, and will take action on Monday, as mandated by the Gaming Commission’s arbitrary deadline."
