In the ring, East Boston’s Elijah Garcia keeps winning

The local boxer recently captured a gold medal at a tournament in Puerto Rico.

Moving up to the 90-pound class, Elijah Garcia captured a gold medal in the King of the Ring competition in Puerto Rico on September 27, 2025. Elijah so dominated the fight he stopped his opponent in the second round.

The victory was the product of hard work, skill and dedication to the sport. The 13-year-old and eighth-grader at Excel Academy earned a spot on the USA Boxing Team New England’s high performance team.This team was selected to compete at the prestigious COPA OLYMPICA, an Olympic committee event organized by the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee. Elijah was successful in this Olympic tournament winning gold in a second round stoppage. This high performance team has a few more tournaments planned with Ireland, Mexico and Canada. A young man of determination and purpose, Elijah is now focused on upcoming international tournaments and Silver Gloves in November and Nationals in Lubbock Texas in December.
