On Thursday, November 20, Samuel Adams Elementary School celebrated the opening of Mr. Mike’s Food Pantry, a school-run food resource named for the long-time Cafeteria Manager Mike Tate.

Students and families united with a mission, fundraising for the food pantry launch through the East Boston-based food security nonprofit Project Bread’s annual Walk for Hunger.

Parents and staff, led by Principal Johanna McKeigue Cruz and Project Bread staff member/Adams parent Hannah Koehn, cleaned out and repurposed this school closet to be a useful resource for students in need.

Mr. Mike’s Food Pantry is now open to Adams Elementary students and their families.
