Urban Refuge volunteers clean up Maverick Square

Urban Refuge, a student-led organization based at Boston University, hosted a neighborhood cleanup in Maverick Square and surrounding streets in partnership with the City of Boston and several BU student groups. The event, held on April 11, brought together 42 volunteers, who worked from 12:30 to 2:30 PM to clean several blocks in the area.

In total, the group collected over 40 bags of trash and focused on high-traffic areas around Maverick Square.

Urban Refugeโ€™s work centers on improving access to essential resources through a privacy-first digital platform, and this event reflects its commitment to showing up in the communities it aims to support.

According to Urban Refuge, “What originated as a classroom project has blossomed into a powerful, collaborative, and user-friendly platform that maps verified social services across the world, bridging information gaps and accessibility issues. Our website seeks to connect individuals seeking aid, support, and stability to critical resources and facilities through an interactive digital map.”
