UPDATE: Blue Line suspension between Airport and Bowdoin extension will continue through Tuesday, May 17

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Blue Line train service anticipated to return on Wednesday, May 18.

BOSTON – The MBTA today announced that the current Blue Line service suspension between Airport and Bowdoin stations will continue through Tuesday, May 17, with train service expected to resume on Wednesday, May 18. Due to the complicated area of track in the diversion area, a construction tool cart derailed near Airport station earlier this week. There were no injuries. The process to re-rail the tool cart earlier this week and make other repairs while continuing to finish scheduled work means additional time is needed to safely complete the project.

Alternate shuttle bus and ferry services will continue to be provided through the service suspension. Details regarding alternate shuttle bus service and ferry schedules are available at mbta.com/harbortunnel. Riders should continue to expect some delays in shuttle bus service.

The MBTA apologizes for the need to extend this diversion, and for the inconvenience experienced by riders during this service suspension. The MBTA knows how frustrating any service interruption is for riders, including unscheduled extensions in shuttle bus diversions, and work crews are actively working as quickly and safely as possible to get the work done. The MBTA continues to express its appreciation of riders’ patience as this important Blue Line work is completed correctly.

Shuttle buses will continue to operate from Rockport Line stations to Beverly station for continued train service to Boston at North Station through May 15 with normal train service between Newburyport and Boston. Due to the extension of this Blue Line suspension, there will be some adjustments to upcoming alternate service for work taking place on the Newburyport/Rockport Line that begins next week. More updates along with an updated schedule will be available soon at mbta.com.

BOSTON – To complete additional work and finish scheduled work, Blue Line service will continue to be suspended until Friday, May 13, between Airport and Bowdoin stations with alternate shuttle bus and ferry services provided. Details regarding alternate shuttle bus service and ferry schedules are available at mbta.com/harbortunnel.

Riders should allow for extra commuting time and expect some delays in shuttle bus service. The MBTA apologizes in advance for these delays and appreciates the patience of its riders as work on the Blue Line is completed.

The previously scheduled Blue Line service suspension between May 12 and May 29 from Wonderland to Orient Heights stations to allow for work on the Suffolk Downs pedestrian bridge will be rescheduled to a later time with alternate dates to be provided soon.
