Editor’s note: Recently a longtime friend of John White, the former executive director of the East Boston Area Planning Action Council who died in June 2022 asked me to join him on his show on SudburyTV. Soterios “Terry” Zoulas knew John White for more than 50 years. He asked me to offer my recollections of my relationship with John and the world in which we both lived. For more than 40 minutes Terry ruminated on the meaning of friendship and the important role John played in his life. We discussed John’s social work and his connection to East Boston. Terry placed John’s friendship in a greater context drawing upon the works of classical, religious and literary giants to underscore John’s humanity. It is a great tribute. For those who worked with John the program is definitely worth a listen.
