BACKGROUND:
The East Boston Community Soup Kitchen was established in 2016. Our mission is to feed, shelter, and assist with recovery and self-care the hungry and homeless in our community, and to do so without judgement or exclusivity.
During normal years we provide a hot meal and a place to rest for those in need. Due to the rapidly changing situation with COVID-19, we have changed our model for safety reasons and to assist those facing food insecurity. Each week we distribute hundreds of bags of groceries for those who have kitchens and meal vouchers for those without.
Right now, the number of those in need continues to grow every week, yet our food donors are struggling to provide consistently. This means that we need to bridge the gap with money donated by people like you. And still, every week we run out of food and have to turn many people away.
We also need a better-functioning kitchen–one with enough working space for our volunteers, lots of storage space for perishable and non-perishable donations. Today, there’s always more need than we can meet. With your help, we can do better in the future.
