Guild Elementary students serenade Don Orione residents with Christmas Carols

(EAST BOSTON- December 21, 2022) This afternoon the 4th grade students at the Curtis Guild Elementary School sang holiday songs for the residents at the Don Orione home. Students caroled outside the windows and residents waved from multiple floors.

The caroling is one the school’s favorite traditions for the 4th grade, continued by teachers Nicole Whelan and John Rogers.

For several years, the Guild teachers ushered in students to the residences but ongoing concerns about Covid this year forced the students to sing outside on Orient Avenue.

Both teachers tell their students: “Years from now you will not remember the gifts you got for the holidays, but you will remember the feeling of doing something kind for someone else. You’ll remember how even a short visit can brighten the faces of our neighbors.”

“Gigi Elabbar works at the residence and has welcomed us year after year appreciatively. She brings out cocoa and cookies for the kids. It’s a wonderful day,” says Whelan.

As the Christmas song says, “It the most wonderful time of the year.”
