Remembering Bob Popeo
We are deeply saddened to share the news of our alumnus and former board member Bob Popeo’s passing earlier this week. We extend our sincere condolences to his beloved family and the many people he impacted.

We are sharing his obituary below but first wanted to share a few of our fond remembrances.

Many of you joined our gala in 2019 when he was one of our three distinguished honorees.

We (and many others) were particularly grateful for that opportunity to celebrate him. He had refused many previous recognitions and was convinced only because he wanted to give back to the home neighborhood he loved and to the Social Centers, which had been such an important part of his and his siblings’ lives.

That was just one demonstration of Bob’s deep humility and generosity. He also had a deep spirit of hospitality; he focused on ensuring all guests had a wonderful experience. He loved to celebrate others and to give back; he had a deep spirit of gratitude. He gave us (and so many others) wise counsel in matters far beyond the law.

His accomplishments weren’t limited to the law; he was the New England Golden Gloves boxing champion at age 17. He contributed to the Social Centers community and many others throughout his life.

Above all, he had such deep love for his family.

His contributions and spirit will always be remembered, and we are deeply grateful for the positive impact he made at the Social Centers and in our lives.
