Overnight Closure of the Sumner Tunnel
Closure on Friday, April 25, from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the following morning
BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that the Sumner Tunnel/ Route 1A southbound will be closed overnight to accommodate the installation of overhead signage. The Sumner Tunnel will close to all traffic at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 and will re-open to traffic by 7:00 a.m. the following morning. Northbound and southbound travel through the Ted Williams Tunnel (I-90) and Callahan Tunnel (Route 1A northbound) will remain available. A signed detour will be in place during the closure.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
