Boston Forge host division rival Charlotte Aviators in East Boston

Boston (June 3, 2024) — Boston’s Major League Quadball (MLQ) team is hosting its home opener in East Boston this weekend.

The Boston Forge are hosting a three-game series against the Charlotte Aviators at East Boston Memorial Stadium on Saturday, June 8. The games will take place from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Tickets are available here.

Quadball is a mixed-gender, full-contact sport inspired by the game of quidditch in the Harry Potter series. The rules were adapted for real life in 2005 by students at Middlebury College in Vermont. It is now played by 600 teams in 40 countries.

Founded in 2015, MLQ is the equivalent of the NFL or the NBA for quadball. The league has 15 teams across the U.S. and Canada and runs its regular season from June to August. Gameplay incorporates a mix of elements from basketball, rugby and dodgeball.

Boston has long been home to an active community of quadball players and the Forge have been one of the most successful franchises in the league. The team has won three titles, including the first two championships, and finished first in the East Division six out of eight times.

Both teams are playing for the chance to compete for the Benepe Cup — the league trophy named after quadball founder Alex Benepe — at the 2024 MLQ Championship in Howard County, Maryland on Aug. 17-19. The top four teams in each division qualify for the event.
