Ensemble of Student Musicians Representing Four East Boston Schools to Perform at East Boston High School Game

The performance, a product of the East Boston Music Collective, will showcase the depth and quality of music education in East Boston’s public schools

WHAT: The East Boston Music Collective (EMBC), administered by EdVestors, a non-profit school improvement organization, and a number of other public and private partners, will be performing at an upcoming East Boston High School (EBHS) Girls’ Softball game on Thursday, May 15th. Student musicians representing Dante Alighieri Montessori School, EBHS, Patrick J. Kennedy School, Otis Elementary School, and Mario Umana Academy will come together to celebrate their achievements and support the EBHS Jets.

Since 2009, EdVestors and partners have worked to expand access to arts and music education through BPS Arts Expansion. A 2019 audit revealed East Boston had the lowest access to instrumental music programming in the city, prompting a targeted effort to close that gap.

Thanks to a $1.65 million grant from an anonymous donor in 2022, music education in East Boston has grown significantly. Students now benefit from new instruments, school-community partnerships, and performances by guest artists. EBMC has also helped connect schools with local arts organizations, offering vital support to music teachers. This collaboration has enabled educators to create culturally responsive curricula tailored to East Boston’s diverse and multilingual student population—home to the highest percentage of newcomer students in Boston.
