At about 8:18 PM, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, officers assigned to District A-7 (East Boston) arrested David Garcia, 18, of East Boston, Ely Zorrilla, 18, of Roxbury, and Roger Spring, 18, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on firearm and drug charges.
Officers were conducting an ongoing investigation into community complaints of trespassing and illegal drug activity in the area of 800 Border Street. Officers observed a motor vehicle with multiple occupants, and attempted to speak with them. As officers approached the group, they began to separate. Officers observed one male attempting to walk from the area and shielding his body.
Officers attempted to pat frisk the suspect, who then pulled his arms into his body. Officers immediately felt a firearm from the suspect’s waistband, and a violent struggle ensued. Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs and recovered a loaded firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Ghost gun with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
Simultaneously, responding officers were able to speak with the rest of the group. Due to a firearm being recovered, officers conducted a pat frisk of all the individuals, and recovered another loaded firearm from one of the suspects. The firearm was later determined to be a Ghost gun with one round in the chamber and sixteen rounds in the magazine.
Officers conducted a search of the motor vehicle, and recovered 31 THC vials, and an unknown amount of Marijuana. The operator was also placed under arrest for illegal drug possession.
Garcia was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. He is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
Zorrilla was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. He is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
Spring was placed under arrest and charged with; Possession with Intent to Distribute Class C, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D. He is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
