(EAST BOSTON, June 28, 2026) A near capacity crowd took their seats at East Boston Memorial Stadium to watch a competitive game World Cup match between Columbia and Portugal. The game ended in a tie, 0-0, but the enthusiasm was off the charts. A few brave souls, Portugal fans, mingled with a huge cascade of Colombian fans. The Colombian community is East Boston is one of the largest Hispanic groups and it’s clear it turned out in great numbers. While the Boston Police Department advised fans to take public transportation, traffic near the stadium caused slight jams from Day Square to Visconti Road but everyone eventually settled in at the stadium. Overall, the event was a success for the city of Boston which is flourishing as a World Cup destination. A great night of fun and congrats to the Wu administration for the planning and the operation of the event. (All photographs by EastBoston.com)
