After some speculation that he might run for his old seat, former district 1 city councilor Sal Lamattina chose last week to remain on the sidelines.

In a text to friends, LaMattina said:

“I am so humbled by the many calls and messages I have received from my friends and colleagues over the past few days encouraging me to strongly consider a return to public service. While the prospect of working again on behalf of the people of Boston would be exciting and rewarding – I have learned to value my retirement and enjoy the time I can spend with family and friends. Therefore, after careful consideration, I will not be a candidate for the District 1 City Council seat. Moreover, I look forward to providing support and guidance to whomever is elected to succeed my friend, Senator elect Lydia Edwards.”

Last week a post at Universal Hub suggested that LaMattina might launch a campaign to suceeed Lydia Edwards who was elected to the state Senate in a special election on Tuesday, December 14.

Other candidates are mulling a run, according to the Bay State Banner. The only declared candidate thus far is Tania Del Rio.
