Red Sox great and Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez inspires students at East Boston High School

EAST BOSTON — Thursday, November 10, 2022 — Mayor Michelle Wu and former Red Sox World Series winning pitcher and Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Pedro Martinez visited East Boston High School to talk with students and Principal Phillip Brangiforte.

East Boston High School has one of the highest percentages of English Language Learners in the Boston Public Schools. The school has seen a significant increase in MCAS scores over the past three years despite the challenges of the pandemic. East Boston High School athletics teams have experienced recent success, highlighted by the baseball team winning its first City League championship since 1991 in May.

“Never shy away from what you want and never let anybody tell you that you can’t,” Martinez told the students gathered in the high school auditorium.
