
A man who served on the board of numerous local organizations, Albert J. “Buddy” Mangini defined what it means to be a civic leader. Buddy passed away on March 11, 2025. He will sorely missed. Buddy’s leadership was based on kindness. Throughout his life, Buddy was known for his generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to uniting people and strengthening his community. His legacy of service will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Defined by contributions, few people loved East Boston like Buddy.
Born on July 26, 1939, Buddy was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and a pillar of his community.
A gifted public speaker, Buddy was a graduate of BC High School, Class of 1957, and later attended St. Michael’s College. His passion for service was evident in his deep involvement with various organizations. A longtime member of Kiwanis Division 14, he served as president three times and was honored as a Lieutenant Governor, earning the esteemed Red Jacket. He was also a past president and dedicated member of the East Boston Chamber of Commerce, where he played a key role in organizing the beloved Columbus Day Parade, an event that brought joy to countless attendees.
Buddy’s dedication to his community extended to his involvement with the Sons of Italy Sempre Avanti, the K Trust board, and the Knights of Columbus 2962, Bishop Cheverus 4th Degree.
He was a guiding force at the East Boston Social Center, the YMCA, and the Salesian Boys and Girls Club, where he worked tirelessly to support local youth.
Additionally, he served as president of the Sacred Heart Church board in East Boston and was an active member of the Democratic Ward Committee.
Throughout his life, Buddy was known for his generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to uniting people and strengthening his community. His legacy of service and kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends will gather to honor Buddy’s life at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home on Wednesday, March 19, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on Thursday morning at 8:30 AM before proceeding to St. Joseph – St. Lazarus Church for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Winthrop Cemetery, Belle Isle section.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Buddy’s memory to the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of East Boston, 150 Byron Street, East Boston, MA 02128, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to youth and community service.
Buddy’s wonderful smile is no longer to be found. A light has been extinguished but his memory is an inspiration to those who step up to serve their neighbors.
May he rest in eternal peace.
